Barnes first appeared in the Domesday Book of 1086, just twenty years after the Battle of Hastings, and some of its stunning Norman architecture remains intact – revel in the historic beauty of St Mary’s Church for evidence of Barnes’ centuries-long history. Barnes is also intricately linked to the Magna Carta, being the first port of call for Stephen Langton (the Archbishop of Canterbury at the time) after he signed the document in 1215.
